Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon did not like the idea of the other man getting the upper hand. On direct opposite sides of the infamous 'Monday Night War', Bischoff led WCW (ably backed by Ted Turner) against McMahon's WWF powerhouse. The result was one of the most exciting periods in wrestling history, as WCW Nitro went head-to-head with WWF Raw.

Previously, Bischoff had literally called McMahon out for a fight on WCW pay-per-view. In addition, he'd also given away results live on air, looking to undercut the pre-taped Raw and tout Nitro as live and fresh. This must have left Vince snarling, hating the fact that Bischoff was being so aggressive.

It was unthinkable to ever see 'Easy E' working for WWE once WCW went out of business, but that's exactly what happened. On the July 15, 2002 episode of Raw, McMahon announced Bischoff as the new General Manager of the program.

Pigs flying seemed like a more likely scenario than McMahon ever handing Bischoff a contract, even as nothing more than an on-air performer. It happened, and the former WCW boss still speaks highly of his WWE run to this day.
