10 Times Really Weird Stuff Went Down At WWE's Royal Rumble

4. Randy Savage Forgets The Rules (1993)

It was even odder to see ring-savvy veterans like Randy Savage forget the rules of the match they were in.

Savage got the biggest pop of the night when he came out as #30 in the 1993 Rumble. To fans in Sacramento, California, he was the one man who could stop man-mountain heel Yokozuna from winning the match and securing a WWF Title shot at 'Mania IX. He might've done it too had he remembered pins didn't count.

No sooner had Randy blasted Yoko with his signature elbow drop than he was draping across the big man hoping for a three count. Referees outside the ring looked on with raised eyebrows, then Mr. Fuji's destroyer pressed the 'Macho Man' off his body and sent him tumbling over the top rope.

Air was sucked out of the building at that very moment. One can imagine the comments rippling around the live crowd. Why had Savage, a cagey old pro who had been to the top of the industry and worked Rumbles before, decided to try and pin Yoko when pins didn't do squat?
