10 Times Superstars Buried WWE's Hierarchy

3. Bruno Sammartino Buries The Attitude Era

As you can see, any animosity between Bruno and WWE was swept under the carpet before his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Bruno was WWE Champion for eight, yes eight, consecutive years back in the day and is unmistakeably one of the greatest of all time. However, the legend became bewildered and unhappy at what he saw McMahon doing to the business he dedicated his livelihood to. Sammartino publicly stated on a number of occasions his utter dismay for the WWE product and in particular Vince McMahon. He believed Vince was tarnishing the legacy of the WWE built by his father, McMahon Snr, and that lewd sexual story-lines and over the top theatrics had no place in wrestling. Sammartino even accused WWE superstars of engaging in drug and steroid abuse and criticized WWE for the death of several superstars. He also turned down numerous opportunities to work with WWE on a number of DVD projects amongst other things. All this makes it all the more amazing Triple H extended the proverbial olive branch and Bruno accepted it. In Bruno, there's at least one person happy with WWE's move to PG rated television.
