1. SummerSlam (1991)
What a monumental event SummerSlam 1991 was. Macho Man and Miss Elizabeth's wedding; the payoff for the Gulf War inspired angle involving WWF Champion Hulk Hogan, The Ultimate Warrior, Sgt. Slaughter, General Adnan and Colonel Mustafa; The legion of Doom winning the Tag Team Championship from the Nasty Boys and Bret 'The Hitman' Hart winning his first WWF singles championship in the form of Mr Perfect's Intercontinental title. It will also be remembered for being the event that ended the Ultimate Warrior's first stint in WWF. One month before the pay-per-view, Warrior wrote a letter to Vince McMahon threatening to no show the main event tag team match unless he was paid $500,000 that he claimed was owed to him. McMahon paid up but then went on to fire Warrior straight after SummerSlam finished, this is despite Warrior claiming that he was suspended and then quit as a matter of principle. Heavy stuff. Again, the preceding Mania, VII, was almost a lay up for SummerSlam. It is remembered for Hogan vs. Iraqi sympathiser Sargent Slaughter, the Mania debut of The Undertaker and the final match of the Hart Foundation, all of which easily pales in significance to SummerSlam you'd have to agree.
