10 Times Triple H Actually Made Legit WWE Stars
3. John Cena
John Cena was admittedly already on the fast track to sustained headline success by the time he ran into Triple H at WrestleMania 22. Even so, a clean submission win over Trips in the show's main event made it clear that Cena was the future of WWE. If Triple H wanted to push back against that, he had a weird way of showing it.
So much for being overprotective of his spot.
'The Game' was seemingly only too happy to make Cena's STFU finisher look like the most painful submission since Benoit's Crossface. Any worries some fans had before the pay-per-view that Triple H would swan in, take the title from John and send him hurtling back towards the upper-midcard were misplaced.
He had one mission and one mission only at 'Mania 22, and that was to legitimise JC as the face of WWE going forwards. In 22 in-ring minutes, he achieved his goal and used his own star power in the best possible way on the biggest platform of the year.
