For all its bizarre characters and storylines, WCW only once pulled off a feat that to the casual fan was physically and temporally impossible. That happened in November 1997, when Rick Rude appeared on Monday Nitro and WWE Raw on the same night.

Rude was one of the wrestlers incensed at Bret Hart's exit from the WWE after the Montreal Screwjob, and immediately jumped ship to WCW. As Jim Ross told it, the WWE had no idea Rude was going to leave, but Rude's WCW contract was being ironed out even as Rude performed on his final Raw. He then signed for WCW and appeared on their next Nitro. Because Raw was recorded on tape and Nitro was broadcast live, the episode were shown on the same night, with Rude on both.

The next person to appear on both shows on the same night would be one Vincent Kennedy McMahon, after the WWE purchased WCW and his enormous gurning face appeared to gloat over his opposition's demise. Apart from Vince, Rude was the only man to apparently teleport between companies.
