10 Times Wrestlers Refused To Break Character For The Media

3. Randy Savage - The Arsenio Hall Show

Man, Arsenio Hall used to be the king of kayfabed interviews. He had to deal with the Ultimate Warrior, Rick Rude, and Randy Savage three times. Randy Savage was not an easy man to keep on topic, and interviewing him must have been like running a marathon. Arsenio Hall should get a medal, and Gene Okerlund should be canonized.

All three of the Arsenio/Savage interviews are classics, and they form a fascinating narrative of his WWE career, from just before WrestleMania V to Summerslam 1992. They tell the story of a great champion whose career (and life, to  degree) were derailed by his own jealousy and egomania before ultimately coming to terms with his own weaknesses and failures to become champion again. It's pretty touching stuff for a series of rambling basic cable interviews.

The first interview is probably the best, with Savage at his overconfident zenith, mere days before his first world title reign was ended by Hulk Hogan. One can't help but feel a little bit bad for the Macho Man, because so much of his career would ultimately be spent in Hogan's shadow, but it's also clear that Savage is by far the superior entertainer.

Immortal Dialogue: "Somebody likes chopped liver!"
