10 Times Wrestlers Said Something That Bit Them On The Ass

9. Cody Buries WWE, Various

The WWE return of Cody Rhodes is so endlessly fascinating.

He won't or at least shouldn't turn up as Cody Rhodes, returning star who worked really hard elsewhere, à la Drew McIntyre. The intrigue lies in the astonishing fact that Cody in part built and has now left the opposition.

But how to fold that intrigue into storylines?

He might receive a hero's welcome by fans who perceived him to have "abandoned" the enemy, but then, what can Cody say with any credibility in the face role? He's one of the best promo men of his generation, when he zones in on one topic - but he can't style three years, at least, of relentless anti-WWE rhetoric.

The wall is invisible; they gave star acts sh*tty new names; they don't allow performers creative freedom; Damien Priest does a sh*tty Cross Rhodes; they make wrestlers look at monitors in a weird, fake way...

Cody has expressed all of these sentiments and countless more on AEW television and the media circuit. He talked sh*t to create buzz, but he talked sh*t nonetheless. He thinks WWE's quirks are weird, counterproductive and woefully out of date. He's said as much, and WWE fans ripped him for it.

So how he does debut without these words biting him on the ass? They already have, in the minds of some AEW fans.

Does Cody debut in an Outsiders-style role, playing a fictionalised version of the enemy?

Or does he just welcome us all to Monday Night RAW, and nothing of interest is sold?
