Never say never.

Edge said never; in response to swirling rumours, he tweeted "No I'm not and no I'm not" on October 5, 2019 - as in, "No I'm not (medically cleared) and no I'm not (set to return)". On December 20, when the rumours resurfaced, he tweeted "Still not and still not. Period" - as in, "Still not (medically cleared) and still not (set to return). Period."

He was medically cleared and returned at the Royal Rumble on January 26, 2020.

Ultimately, nobody viewed Edge as some rotten lying bastard. Most were overjoyed to see him back, even if you could barely see him, since Kevin Dunn hates wrestling so much he can't bear to concentrate on it for longer than a few seconds.

But still, it's just easier to ignore the speculation and not sell it. If anything, when a wrestler sells that they are coming back, they almost certainly are.

Again, this tell didn't detract from the euphoria of the pop - Kevin Dunn being an incompetent f*ckwit did - but he all but clued in cynical long-term fans.
