3. Pointless Waste Of Time - Battleground 2013
Daniel Bryan has been stripped of the title following his victory at Night of Champions, but rather than just hand the WWE Championship back to Randy Orton, The Authority decided to vacate the belt and have the two compete at Battleground to crown a new champion. Fans once again got their hopes up for Bryan to walk away victorious, but perhaps proving that they're incapable of learning from their mistakes, the WWE ended the night in the unsatisfying and frustrating manner possible. It's hard to say what their reasoning was. Was this just a way to drag out the feud between Bryan and Orton (which was no bad thing given the quality of their matches) or just a way of avoiding giving Bryan the title? It's hard to say, but the match would abruptly end when The Big Show came to the ring and knocked out both Bryan AND Orton. That was it! The night ended with the conflicted leaving the ring as both men lay there motionless on the mat. It was the very definition of ending with a whimper rather than a bang, and fans were left furious after spending money on yet another PPV with an ending which was both pointless and completely underwhelming. The worst part is that a definitive winner had been promised, and Orton taking home the gold again would have been better in some ways. The only sort of good part about this was that it heightened the excitement around their next match at Hell in a Cell.
