10 Times Wrestling Shows Became Total Anarchy
5. The Ayatollah Of Rock 'Em Sock 'Em (WWE, 2009)
Most people expect the show to be the craziest part of a wrestling event, but like their rock counterparts, wrestling superstar’s potential for anarchy increases once the show is over. Fighting in front of thousands in a secure arena is more often safer than dealing with a small crowd in a parking lot. In 2009, Chris Jericho found this out to his detriment.
Jericho’s mistimed worked punch, that left Shawn Michael’s wife Rebecca with a fat lip, is infamous. His punch to a female "fan" is less known in the wider fanbase. Objectively, what Jericho was subjected to was completely inappropriate from any adult fandom.
After a show in Victoria, British Columbia, Jericho’s car was attacked when it stopped, prompting him to respond. As Y2J confronted the attacker, a mob jumped on him, including the assailant's girlfriend who spat at Jericho. The security guards were unprofessionally lax and only intervened once a full melee had ensued and Jericho called on them to do their job.
Jericho, assaulted physically and verbally, managed to get free by shoving and throwing punches, one of which struck the female. The police arrived minutes after the superstar left, though, there were no charges following the incident.
