10 Times WWE Attempted To Use A Real Life Situation To Their Advantage (And Failed)
7. Seth Rollins And Becky Lynch Join Forces
Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins have been two of the bright spots of WWE’s recent years. A pair of terrific performers and main event mainstays, they’ve not always been booked brilliantly but have proven time and again that they have the chops and charisma to help carry the company.
They’re also a real life couple, engaged and expecting a baby. They seem very happy together on social media and in WWE documentary footage.
Understandably, when the relationship came to light, the bookers decided to pair the two up onscreen for a lengthy angle with Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans. It didn’t work, and the two looked uncomfortable with the angle from the off. Despite having two great performers, WWE decided to focus as much as possible on the fact these two were going out, making for some remarkably uncompelling TV given the talent at hand.
Becky Lynch has spoken publicly about the mishandling of the angle and the real life relationship, and after much fan indignation, WWE moved away from this. It did no one any favours.
