10 Times WWE Attempted To Use A Real Life Situation To Their Advantage (And Failed)

6. Baron Corbin On Twitter

While Vince McMahon may be apprehensive about his performers utilising social media, when done well, superstars can increase heat expertly using Twitter and the like. Take Randy Orton, for example, an expert social media wind up merchant.

Then there’s the likes of Baron Corbin, In building a feud with recent NXT call up Matt Riddle, Corbin tweeted that his opponent had “already proven that he's a failure at home”. Without wanting to delve too deep into the muck, Corbin’s tweet relates not only to some unfortunate personal matters involving Riddle’s marriage, but some serious legal allegations that have no business being invoked in a professional wrestling storyline.

The handling of WWE stars’ legal difficulties is another matter altogether, with the company dropping the ball elsewhere in 2020, but the accusations levelled against Matt Riddle, whether or not they’re true, should not be used to beef up an otherwise anaemic storyline.

The tweet remains up at time of writing, meaning WWE have essentially signed off on this approach. And yet wrestlers making an extra buck on Cameo during a pandemic is deemed unacceptable.
