10 Times WWE Broke Your Heart And Didn’t Even Care
8. WWF (The Rock) Vs. WCW (Stone Cold Steve Austin)
Vince McMahon wasn't the only man throwing his arms up following the climax - used as loosely as possible in the week potentially the greatest G1 brackets in history were announced - of the WWE vs Alliance Survivor Series 2001 main event.
He was celebrating the salvation of his company in storylines, but was perhaps most chuffed to have gotten away with somehow delivering a re-run of his WrestleMania event as the payoff to the WCW 'Invasion'.
He gave absolutely no f*cks for those that wanted WCW performers to actually succeed in the company, and even less for the dream contests he had no interest in paying to promote until the various talents were out of their Time Warner contracts and too old to pull them off.
In a silly coda to the whole charade, WWE Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin (representing WCW) lost out to WCW Champion The Rock (representing WWE). This was less about restoring the status quo than actively repurposing it and promoting it all over again. Vince had 'won' the wrestling war yet again, but substantially fewer people could understand why second time around.
