10 Times WWE Championships Changed Hands Twice In The Same Night
5. SummerSlam 2013
John Cena to Daniel Bryan to Randy Orton - WWE Championship.
You could write essays on this one. When John Cena handpicked Daniel Bryan to face him at SummerSlam 2013, with the WWE Championship on the line, nobody expected what came next. Sure, with Triple H adding himself as the special guest referee, there was potential for shenanigans, but when the American Dragon hit the Running Knee and pinned the Chain Gang Soldier clean it seemed like a happy ending was coming.
Enter Triple H.
The destroyer of worlds was in one of his worst I must put down the most popular babyface phases and everybody all knew it. A Pedigree later, and Randy Orton was slithering into the ring with his red briefcase in hand. He cashed-in and D-Bry’s first WWE Championship reign was over in a matter of minutes. The show went off the air with the two Evolution allies standing tall, which was something fans would get used to over the next nine months when Batista returned and pushed this storyline to breaking point.
Let's not pretend that Bryan wasn't booked to do the same thing to Big Show in 2011, but this was completely different. The most over babyface in years, winning the most important prize in the business, at the biggest party of the summer, against the face of the WWE no less. It writes itself! It was all so close yet so far.
At least they fixed this at WrestleMania XXX, which they'll tell you was always the plan from the beginning...
