10 Times WWE Championships Changed Hands Twice In The Same Night

Vacant to Rey Mysterio to John Cena (With CM Punk returning as the 'true' champion that night) - WWE Championship.

Another occasion where a first-time holder of the WWE Championship had the belt ripped away from them, this time it was everybody’s favourite underdog: Rey Mysterio.

With CM Punk escaping through the crowd with the title at Money in the Bank, a tournament was arranged to crown a new champion. Curiously, John Cena was left out of a lineup consisting of Rey Mysterio, Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger, R-Truth, Kofi Kingston, Alberto Del Rio, Alex Riley, and the Miz.

With the final taking place at a Raw Supershow on July 25, 2011 the smallest ever World Heavyweight Champion took home the gold, only for Cena to do what any babyface would do in that situation and challenge him to a match later in the night. 90 minutes later and the champ was here… or should that be the champs were here? As the Doctor of Thuganomics celebrated, 'Cult of Personality' played for the first time in a WWE arena and CM Punk returned with his own belt.

To make matters worse for Mysterio, the WWE recognises CM Punk's reign as running alongside his, so there will always be another asterisk next to his name.
