10 Times WWE Championships Changed Hands Twice In The Same Night
3. Elimination Chamber 2010
Sheamus to John Cena to Batista - WWE Championship.
John Cena was a babyface when he challenged Rey Mysterio on the night he won the belt, but when the tables were turned a year earlier, Batista was definitely a heel.
Elimination Chamber 2010 opened with the Raw version of the event’s titular bout in which Sheamus was defending his WWE Championship against Randy Orton, Ted DiBiase, Kofi Kingston, Triple H, and John Cena. With a Pedigree sending the title holder home, it was down to the two most decorated stars in the match. Two minutes later the Game tapped to the STF and the Leader of the Cenation was once again top of the ladder on the Road to WrestleMania. Or so fans thought…
In a throwback to 2006, when he announced Edge’s cash-in, Vince McMahon walked out on stage and congratulated the new champion and let him know that he’d be going to WrestleMania - if he could beat one more person.
His challenger had helped the chairman in his mission to make Bret Hart’s life a living hell: Batista. A Spear and a Batista Bomb later and the Animal was celebrating his second reign as WWE Champion. Why always Cena?
This felt like a swerve for the sake of it; with a month to go until WrestleMania, there wasn't any sign of a WWE Championship storyline heading into the Grandaddy. Pulling the trigger here pushed along the McMahon-Hart storyline, continued Batista's monster heel run, and gave fans chance to see the two biggest stars of 2005-2010 go one-on-one on the industry's biggest stage.
