Mysterio's feud with Chris Jericho in Spring 2009 was one of the highlights of the year. Their match at The Bash was especially rewarding and, in a universe where Shawn Michaels versus The Undertaker doesn't exist, it probably would have been the match of the year. The Bash match was just one in a series of great matches with Jericho. Management were impressed with their work and Mysteiro was promised a long run with the title while Jericho segued into the tag team division. Mysterio was surprised, then, when WWE asked him to drop the belt after only one month. WWE wanted Rey to lose the title to the up-and-coming Dolph Ziggler at Night of Champions. Feeling like they were reneging on their promises, Mysterio refused. WWE tried again a month later at SummerSlam and, again, Rey stuck to his guns and said he wouldn't drop the belt to Dolph. It was pretty low of WWE to ask Mysterio to drop the title only a month after winning it, especially after they had promised him a long run as IC Champion. Fair play to Rey for saying 'no'.
