10 Times WWE Dropped The Ball With Ryback
7. Turning Heel For No Apparent Reason
In the final few months of 2015, Ryback failed to regain the Intercontinental Championship he lost at Night of Champions, coming out on the losing end of a short-lived feud with Rusev. Not entering the new year with a ton of direction, he went on to rekindle his rivalry with Bray Wyatt and The Wyatt Family. Although he, Big Show and Kane toppled the trio at WWE Fastlane (a rare pay-per-view victory for Ryback), he walked out on his partners in a rematch the next night on Raw.
Why? Well, Ryback explained himself later on in the evening by saying he wanted to start focusing on himself again and didn't need anyone else holding him back. And no, Big Show and Kane never exacted revenge (and perhaps for the better). The heel turn came completely out of the blue seeing as how it wasn't foreshadowed at all in the weeks leading up to it.
Other than bullying Kalisto backstage, his on-air persona hardly changed, leaving crowds confused as to how they should react to him. He looked like a total badass in his squashes against The Social Outcasts, but he had very little character evolution and there was zero incentive for fans to cheer or boo him.
Ryback has always been a better babyface due to the popular "Feed Me More" chant, so the heel turn did more to hinder his momentum than help it.
