10 Times WWE Employees Hated The Current Product

The Undertaker/Mark Calaway is professional wrestling. He is a legend and expert on the business, particularly the WWE product he has been part of for over three decades, and during his recent appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, ‘Taker said of the current WWE product:-

“I just think the product is a little soft. There's guys here and there that have an edge to them, but there's too much pretty, not enough substance right now. They're trying to put something out for everybody.”

‘The Deadman’ elaborated that he believes the last generation of stars “all just aged out” at the same time leaving “all these young guys to learn with more young guys - and the product changed”.

There are benefits to a “softer” style of wrestling, namely the lack of concussions and life-altering injuries. ‘Taker inadvertently addresses the reason behind the change in product, rather than the last generation simply ageing out many were forced out due to injuries caused by the hard-hitting style of yesteryear. Many of the current generation will have the longevity to put the next generation over, in competitive matches.

While WWE has undeniably changed, for better or worse is up for debate, it is telling that other industry icons Jim Ross and Goldberg agree with ‘Taker’s analysis. Wrestling may be “soft”, but it isn’t “S-A-W-F-T”, which is a small blessing.

The situation recalls a classic Grandpa Simpson life lesson:

“I used to be with ‘it’, but then they changed what ‘it’ was. Now what I’m with isn’t ‘it’ anymore and what’s ‘it’ seems weird and scary. It’ll happen to you!”
