10 Times WWE Failed Roman Reigns

2. Pointless Ascension To Grand Slam Status

Both the United States and Intercontinental Title reigns Roman enjoyed in 2016 and 2017 were pointless.

The US Title run was a bit more satisfying than the IC one, although it's still true that WWE blatantly only booked it so Michael Cole could (someday) briefly crow about Reigns being a Grand Slam Champion. When Roman beat The Miz to become Intercontinental top dog last year, WWE had their wish and Reigns belonged to an elite club.

It didn't escape fan attention that the Grand Slam notoriety wasn't poured on Dean Ambrose the same way even though he achieved the feat before Reigns. That only feeds the idea that Roman is the favourite amongst upper management and some Grand Slam wins are more important than others.

Few, if any, will recall that Reigns was Intercontinental Champion for 63 days in 2017 a few years from now. Losing the belt back to Miz at Raw 25 was another mis-step that not only rendered his reign useless, it also proved that WWE's booking was see-through.
