10 Times WWE Fans Saw It Coming But Still Lost Their Minds
...LOOK IN MY EEEEEEYES, what do you see? That time CM Punk actually did return to TV.
A genuine surprise inside WWE used to be achievable by simply pulling the trigger on a shocking moment when the fans least expected it.
Easy enough, right?
Think of something abnormally cool. Run it by Vince McMahon. Brief all involved. Wait for the rapturous response.
Yet, thanks to the introduction of the internet and the fact that some obvious finishes or angles are just too brilliant not to commit to, fans have had a good idea as to what would be on the horizon for McMahon's company for quite some time.
Be it match-winners, surprise returns or shocking angles, some blatant opportunities simply have to be capitalised on as the rewards are too great. But, die-hards also have a habit of over-researching and sometimes spoil the surprise for themselves in doing so.
That said, just because you know it's coming, doesn't necessarily make it any less cool.
Depending on the scenario, the knowledge of a certain outcome can actually build positive anticipation for it and when the trigger is finally pulled, you can bet that the noise will still be as deafening as it would have been without the prior scoop.
We all knew without a shadow of a doubt that these things were all destined to happen, but that still didn't stop us losing our minds.
10. Seth Rollins Beats Brock Lesnar (SummerSlam 2019)
Just as fans had started to lose patience with Seth Rollins - only a few months removed from his conquering of Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 35 - 'The Beast Incarnate' chose to take advantage of a prone Universal Champion, after a mixed tag match involving himself and fiancée Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch against Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans at Extreme Rules 2019.
This successful cashing-in of Lesnar's Money in the Bank briefcase put Rollins back in a situation where he had to overcome the odds in order to reassert himself as the top guy in the company. WWE played into this even more by having him systematically brutalised by Lesnar whenever the pair shared airtime together.
It was quite clear from the get-go that this programme was designed to get Rollins back in the WWE Universe's good books and the match itself played out like a pumped up version of what we got at 'Mania 35, which reaped rewards on that night in New Jersey and did the same again here in Toronto.
Fans were pretty much convinced before both of these events that Rollins would be the star to walk out of the arena as Universal Champion and on both occasions they were right to be.
Did that make either moment less special? No.
Did you still lose your mind at the vanquishing of the monstrous Lesnar? Yep.
Sometimes a simple 'underdog wins the big one' story is enough to send the crowd home happy - even if they saw it coming and even if in the long run it didn't end up saving 'Monday Night Rollins'.
