10 Times WWE Got "The Guy" Wrong

3. Lex Luger

From one failed blonde "guy" fond of wandering around in the ol' red, white, and blue to another.

In the hopes of creating a new Hulk Hogan of sorts (more on him later), Vince McMahon unleashed a Lex Express in 1993.

Now sure, Lex Luger definitely looked like a million bucks, though he lacked the same level of charisma an icon as big as Hogan boasted. He also certainly had the backing of the company coming into his eventual showdown with Yokozuna over the WWF Championship at SummerSlam, but fans just weren't fully buying it at the time.

And it was that reality which ultimately led to the company getting cold feet and opting not to strap him up in the summer, choosing instead to continue building up the adonis in the hopes of him one day finally connecting with the crowd.

Yeah, about that.

By the time both he and actual fan-favourite Bret Hart fell over the top-rope at the 1994 Royal Rumble, the crowd reactions both men received that night told the story of one person, dressed in black and pink, who was most definitely "the guy" - and another who clearly wasn't.

And sure enough, when both men received their World title shots at WrestleMania X, it was the 'Hitman' who walked out with the belt as fans took one look at that Hogan 2.0 push and said "that doesn't work for me, brother!"
