10 Times WWE Got The SummerSlam Main Event Wrong

What The Main Event Should Have Been: Hulk Hogan vs. Ultimate Warrior.

At WrestleMania VII, Hulk Hogan won his World Title back against Sgt. Slaughter, thus saving America from an Iraqi invasion. Four months later, he had to do it again. It was really unnecessary. Despite Hogan and his tag partner Ultimate Warrior being at a 2-on-3 disadvantage, nobody bought that they were ever in jeopardy. An aging and barely mobile Iron Sheik (Col. Mustafa), and their manager General Adnan were less intimidating partners than Barry Horowitz and Battle Kat.

What would have been far more intriguing was another Ultimate Challenge. Hogan and Warrior put on one of the best matches in WWF history at Mania VI, and enough time had passed to make a rematch feel like a big deal.

With Warrior flopping as the face of the company, and with him constantly being a giant pain in the ass (he was going to hold up the SummerSlam main event until Vince McMahon gave him half a million dollars), it would have been the time to give Hogan his win back.

Would Warrior have agreed to take a clean loss? Probably not. But if he did, it would have given Hogan momentum to then put over someone else (which again was not likely). No matter what, though, Hogan and Warrior: Round 2 would have been a more intriguing match-up than what we got. It would have also served as a proper sequel, as opposed to their Halloween Havoc showdown.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
