10 Times WWE Has Dropped The Ball With Bobby Lashley Since His Return

6. Two Forgettable Reigns As Intercontinental Champion

During Bobby Lashley's original run with WWE, he held the United States Championship for a brief period as well as the ECW World Championship on two separate occasions. Although he was never able to clinch the WWE Championship, he went on to win multiple titles during his time with IMPACT Wrestling.

From the moment Lashley returned to WWE in April 2018, it was apparent he had gold on his mind. It took a little longer than expected, but he captured the Intercontinental Championship at long last on a January 2019 episode of Raw by way of winning a Triple Threat match. It was a cool, pleasantly surprising moment that should have launched Lashley into super stardom.

Sadly, it did not, but to no fault of his own.

Lashley and Lio Rush came across as more dominant and more serious than ever before when Lashley's run as Intercontinental champion began, but WWE failed to capitalize on it. Instead, he was placed in a forgettable feud with Finn Bálor, who cut Lashley's title reign short at Elimination Chamber.

Although The All Mighty One regained the gold shortly thereafter, his second stint with the strap only lasted until WrestleMania 35, where he again dropped the belt to Bálor in a matter of minutes.

Apparently Lashley having a stranglehold on the championship for six months or so before finally dropping it to a deserving babyface would have made too much sense.
