10 Times WWE Hit Themselves Where It Hurts

Sigh.

This storyline wrote itself. One of the best and most loved wrestlers of the last decade triumphs as the underdog, gets hurt, comes back and triumphs again, gets hurt again, and finally has to hang up his boots in one of the most emotional segments ever shown on WWE TV.

Two years later, after what can be considered a medical miracle, Daniel Bryan returned as an active wrestler. It was legitimately one of the most shocking things to happen in this writer's 40-ish years of being a wrestling fan.

And then they went and put him in a program against Big Cass, who happened to return from injury the same day, yet was, understandably, completely overshadowed. To be honest, Cass returning from injury would have warranted a minor mention in wrestling media at best, but compared to the day's lead story it was made inconsequential.

Basing a comeback feud on social media envy is weak. Bryan was made to do an extended program with Cass before getting to the real goods, his long-awaited feud with The Miz, and even that was only so-so.

That, however, led to Bryan's brilliant heel turn as the 'Planet's Champion' and a great match with Brock Lesnar, so some good did result.
