10 Times WWE Made Us Ashamed To Be Wrestling Fans

2. Using Paul Bearer In Storylines After His Death

You’d think WWE would have learnt their lesson.

Paul Bearer passed away during the build to CM Punk vs. The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29. Possibly there were plans at some point to bring in Bearer to counteract Punk’s manager Paul Heyman, but if so then WWE weren’t about to let the man’s death stand in their way.

Punk and Heyman proceeded to mock Paul Bearer for weeks after his passing, including Heyman dressing as Bearer and Punk using his famous urn to attack his storyline sons Kane and The Undertaker. Most people would agree that while Punk and Heyman were heels at the time, using Paul Bearer’s very real death crossed the boundaries of good taste.

The sad thing was that Punk vs. Undertaker was enough of a draw for WrestleMania by itself, as the match was widely expected to be excellent and it delivered on all counts. The use of Bearer’s death, which occurred only just over a month before WrestleMania, added nothing to the storyline and served only to leave a bad taste in the mouth.
