Now if I were to give an exact history of the lineage of the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships, I'd need to write ten more articles so lets just trim the fat and get to the point. Last December when WWE decided to unify it's top two championships, we were hammered over the head with the fact that each title was over fifty years old and that this unification was a century in the making. Now that sounds like some historic stuff right there. Unfortunately it's about as accurate as WWE's claim that Monday Night Raw is the longest running weekly episodic television show in history (hey there's one I forgot to cover!) The World Heavyweight Title that Daniel Bryan currently holds is only twelve years old. Introduced after the WWE merged their own title with the WCW Title in 2001, the belt has no connection whatsoever to the NWA title held by Ric Flair and Harley Race, nor the WCW Title last held be Chris Jericho. Of course that doesn't sound nearly as dramatic when trying trying to sell a Pay Per View, so WWE essentially said "F**k you history! Oh and the paying audience too!"
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
