As long as I'm spilling the beans on the Hitman, I may as well bring up one of the worst kept secrets in WWE history. In a nutshell Bret Hart decided to leave WWF for WCW in 1997 (At Vince's request since Vince could no longer afford to pay him their agreed sum). His final match would be at Survivor Series (Seriously, is this freaking event cursed or something?) where he would drop the title to Shawn. Bret refused because the event was in his home country of Canada and he refused to lose his final match in Montreal (even though he's from Calgary). He reached a "compromise" where he would defeat HBK with the Sharpshooter and then hand the belt over to Vince the next night on Raw. Of course that never happened. The official excuse for Vince McMahon double crossing Hart was that Vince feared Hart would take his beloved WWF Championship to WCW and presumably desecrate or destroy it on Nitro. Doing whatever he had to do to protect his most prestigious title from ending up in the hands of the enemy Vince's actions could be understood, if not necessarily condoned. Too bad it's a pile of bull! The real reason Vince double crossed Bret was ego. McMahon felt disrespected by Hart's refusal to drop the belt. You may have heard the wrestling expression "doing the honors". it means putting over your opponent in your final match as a show of respect. Vince believed that Hart needed to be taught a lesson in humility and decided to humble the Hitman in his own country. Both sides were right and both sides were wrong, but whichever side you come down on, you can't really blame Vince for lying about his motives.
As a wrestling fan I've flown across the Atlantic for the last five years specifically to attend WrestleMania (28 and 30) as well as TNA, ROH, Evolve, Chikara and most recently PWG.
I may have a problem!
But if you're reading my work then you probably love wrestling too, so lets focus on that!
