10 Times WWE Royal Rumble Winners Risked It All Before WrestleMania
5. Asuka - 2018
Stop trying to make Nia Jax happen. It isn't going to happen.
Nobody but Asuka was winning the Royal Rumble match in 2018. The first ever women's version of the match was a triumph, with everybody from Trish Stratus to Jacqueline to... Kelly Kelly returning for a piece of the action. Having never lost a match in WWE, the Empress of Tomorrow continued that hot streak by claiming her place at WrestleMania.
It was such an easy storyline to book, so they had to throw a spanner in the works.
Nobody wanted to see it, but Asuka was put into a match with Nia Jax at Elimination Chamber; if Jax won she'd be added to the match at WrestleMania. The WWE Universe collectively held its breath. Would Asuka's streak end a month before WrestleMania? Would we go from getting the perfect Royal Rumble winner to seeing Nia Jax leave the Granddaddy of Them All as champion? Why were they doing this to us?
Thankfully, nothing like that happened. The Japanese star beat Jax in under 10 minutes to a sigh of relief from every wrestling fan on the planet. She'd go on to lose her streak to Charlotte Flair at the Showcase of the Immortals, but thankfully she made it there without them spoiling the story along the way. We can have nice things, WWE!
