10 Times WWE Ruined Their Own Ideas IMMEDIATELY

4. Royal Rumble's WrestleMania Importance

Idea: By 1993, Vince McMahon was seeking another way to shake up the Royal Rumble match and give fans a reason to care. '93's version needed something unique after Ric Flair's WWF Title heroics the prior year, and Vince had just the ticket. The Rumble winner, it was decreed, would bag himself a guaranteed slot in the main event of WrestleMania.

How It Was Ruined: Yes, Yokozuna did win the Rumble and work 'Mania IX's main event against WWF Champ Bret Hart. Yes, he did win the belt from Bret and look like a dominating monster in the process. No, Rumble winner Yoko didn't end the night as champion in Las Vegas.

Hulk Hogan did.

You'd have to go some to find a bigger Hogan mark than this writer (especially in the early-'90s), but he shouldn't have won at IX. A second title change in just a few minutes at 'Mania completely rubbished Yokozuna's herculean efforts at the Rumble and made a mockery of how important that win was.
