10 Times WWE Stars Were Scapegoats For Bad Booking
2. Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins' Universal Championship reign was so unfortunate.
After struggling through a snoozefest feud with Baron Corbin and a brief game of "Championship Hot Potato" with Brock Lesnar, Rollins entered a program with 'The Fiend' Bray Wyatt going into 2019's Hell in a Cell PPV. Wyatt was the hottest act in the company at the time, and fans expected to see him maul Rollins in a manner similar to how he'd basically murdered Finn Bálor just two months prior at SummerSlam.
Instead, we got one of the worst booked matches in company history. And given that Rollins' somewhat-arrogant social media demeanor had already been grating on fans, this match was the absolute last thing that he needed.
For over 17 minutes, Rollins walloped Wyatt with literally anything he could find under the ring as the latter did little to retaliate. Worse yet, this so-called "No Holds Barred Hell in a Cell match" ended via referee stoppage, prompting the Sacramento crowd to boo both men out of the building.
But in the end, only Rollins' image suffered.
He's gone on to admit after the fact that he was "dead in the water" following the match. It's hard not to agree with his sentiments, seeing how the overwhelming negative fan reception more or less forced a heel turn on his end. Luckily for him, though, he thrives so much more in this role than he ever could as a good guy.
