10 Times WWE Swerved The Fans Just For The Sake Of It

5. Kane Feuds With Rey Mysterio

One of Kane's many, many forgettable feuds came at the expense of Rey Mysterio in 2008. What was particularly unfortunate about this one, though, was that it wasn't even supposed to happen - it was a "Plan B" that WWE devised after their original idea got out.

During the late summer of 2008, Kane began carrying a burlap sack around with a mask in it and asking the question, "Is he alive or is he dead?" Originally, it was meant to Kane's mask in the bag, and the whole storyline was meant to lead to Kane once again wearing his mask. When eagle-eyed fans noticed the outline of mask in the bag and news spread online, WWE pulled an audible. On TV, Kane revealed that it was Mysterio's mask (which he had apparently obtained after assaulting the former World Heavyweight Champion), and that initiated a program between the men.

So for the sake of a weak surprise, Mysterio got sucked into a feud that did no favors for anybody. A few years later, Kane finally did re-don the mask - just in time for another terrible feud with John Cena.
