10 Times WWE Was Pure Cinema
7. The Streak
Another happy accident.
The Undertaker beat Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka at WrestleMania VII on March 24, 1991 and the greatest streak in WWE history started.
Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Giant Gonzales, King Kong Bundy, Diesel, Sycho Sid, Kane, Big Boss Man, and Triple H were the next to fall.
It wasn't until WrestleMania X-8 in 2002, after the dream match between 'Taker and Ric Flair that The Steak was first acknowledged onscreen; Big Evil counted to 10 on his fingers as he left the arena.
It was sequel after sequel after sequel from then on. Like the Hollywood juggernaut releasing bankable films every year, WWE knew fans were invested in the Streak. Then came the biggest threat to what had become a record of 16-0: Shawn Michaels.
Mr. WrestleMania couldn't do it either, even with his career on the line. His best friend Triple tried again too, but once again 'Taker left the Grandaddy of Them All standing tall. CM Punk was next and the same thing happened.
21-0 was where it all ended. The hero fell when Brock Lesnar came to town at WrestleMania XXX on April 6, 2014.
The gasps of more than 75,000 people in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome were deafening. When the Beast Incarnate was announced as the winner, the fans realised a hero had fallen. It was one of those moments that made people suspend their disbelief like never before.
The Undertaker left as a hero, but The Streak was over. 21-1.
