Survivor Series 2002 featured the first ever Elimination Chamber match. It pitted World Heavyweight Champion Triple H against Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho, Kane, Booker T, and Rob Van Dam.

The Elimination Chamber is a Frankenstein stipulation, taking elements from Hell in a Cell, Royal Rumble, and Wargames. It was created by Triple H; however, Raw General Manager Eric Bischoff took kayfabe credit. The Chamber’s real-life architect was the match’s first casualty.

The match began with Triple H and Rob Van Dam. Triple H was quickly busted open as Van Dam tapped into his extreme side using the Chamber as a weapon. After the two, Jericho, and Booker, had brawled, Triple H was grounded. Van Dam took to the top rope. He decided to up the extremity and climbed on top of an empty Chamber pod.

The structure of the Chamber limited Van Dam’s ability to stand upright. He looked unsteady before he leapt to hit the Five-Star Frog Splash. Van Dam’s knee collided with ‘The Game’s’ throat. Triple H writhed in agony, grasping at his neck, and violently kicking his legs. However, despite having a crushed larynx, ‘The Cerebral Assassin’ completed the match.
