10 Times WWE Wrestlers Stole Spotlight In Defeat

3. Vince McMahon (Bobby Lashley Vs. Umaga, WrestleMania 23)

Actually, you can edit the ‘Vince McMahon’ there and enter ‘Every Wrestler Who Has Ever Lost A Luchas De Apuestas Match’. That is the whole point, isn’t it? The whole point is that something of serious value is on the line, a mask, a head of hair, a career. The misery of the loser is arguably of more value to a paying audience than the thrill of victory. God bless you, schadenfreude.

Vince McMahon has to be different though, of course he does. The Chairman of the Board lost a Luchas De Apuestas at WrestleMania 23, although he lost the match via surrogate. Bobby Lashley vanquished Umaga, and Vince was to have his head shaved bald. Lashley was representing Donald Trump, but the less said about that individual, the better. Trump, not Lashley. All hail the All Mighty!

Anyway, Vince wasn’t about to go quietly into the night, and his head-shaving remains one of the most hilarious examples of big stage humiliation in wrestling history. This was wrestling’s most over the top character going way, way, way over the top in the best possible way. Lashley and Trump won, but the spotlight was well and truly focused on Vincent Kennedy McMahon.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
