10 Tough Questions WWE Must Ask Itself In 2021
5. When To Bring Fans Back?
Fans have technically returned to WWE shows in the form of the dribble of outsiders that supplements the Capitol Wrestling Center's digital noise, though bringing larger numbers back is a far more complicated question as cases continue to soar in WWE's Florida home.
State Governor Ron DeSantis reopened Florida for sports events in October. "Sports franchises can do as they please," said his press secretary, Cody McCloud, effectively allowing WWE to bring as many people in their buildings as they want. Vince McMahon has thus far resisted the temptation to follow the lead set by FL sports teams like the Orlando Magic, who drew up plans for 4,000 to attend NBA games in December.
You'd be hard pressed to find many who aren't desperate for the fans to bring their noise back. Still, reopening arenas in a state that confirmed 19,816 new cases is a hard, hard sell at the moment, and a potential PR nightmare. WWE would be wise to hang fire and wait until vaccination is more widespread.
Besides, who says Vince McMahon even wants the audience back? He controls the narrative in the ThunderDome, where there's no risk of rogue crowds turning on his booking decisions - and that's what he has wanted all along.
