10 Truly Awful WWE Divas Storylines, Angles And Gimmicks
7. Fondle Me Elmo
Before the Attitude Era began proper, WWE tried to present some edgy content via Shotgun Saturday Night, at least in the beginning of the show's run. Featuring off-the-wall angles, gritty matches and emanating from places as varied as a nightclub and a train station, if felt like WWE's answer to ECW. One of the most bizarre WWE segments ever (think about that for a second) aired during the show's second episode. WWE and Sunny had promised the world that they would show a Sunny sex tape on the January 11th 1997 show. Considering what transpired, there must have been a lot of disappointed fourteen-year-old boys that night. Basically, Sunny and a man-sized 'Fondle Me Elmo' made love with the lights off. Afterwards Elmo (actually WWF interviewer Todd Pattengill) asked Sunny where his penis was while Sunny gave an 'aw shucks' look at the camera. It was WWE's attempt to do some kind of Saturday Night Live sketch and be topical (Tickle Me Elmo dolls were a craze and selling for ridiculous prices at the time), but it just came across very, very weirdly.
