10 Truly Upsetting Moments In The History Of The Intercontinental Title

2. The Sheer Amount Of 'Nothing' Champions

There was a time when being WWF/WWE Intercontinental Champion meant something. Some of the biggest names in history have held the title with distinction, including the likes of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Chris Jericho and The Rock, but the sad fact is that there have been so many examples of wrestlers who didn't really merit a run with the award. In wrestling, there's two ways of looking at titles. On one hand, prestigious titles can be used to help 'make' a star out of someone, who instantly seems like a bigger deal simply by association. On the other, some people argue that it's the wrestler holding the title that makes it valuable, not the other way around. Ezekiel Jackson, Albert, Big E, The Godfather, Billy Gunn, the list of throwaway champions throughout the tenure of the Intercontinental Title truly is alarming. WWE would be better served putting the belt on someone and sticking to their guns, rather than playing hot potato with the thing hoping it will make someone seem like a bigger deal than they are.
