4. Daniel Cormier

A lifelong pro wrestling fan, Daniel Cormier wowed MMA crowds with his neck-jarring suplexes and takedowns for years in the cage.

A late start in MMA, the former Olympian joined the American Kickboxing Academy and entered the fighting game at 30. He quickly racked up an impressive winning streak. Cormier won a lot of fans thanks to both his amazing wrestling skills and affable demeanour in interviews.

Coming across as a likeable, down to earth family man, Cormier could easily play an everyman babyface in pro wrestling. However, there was a noticeable change in the air when Cormier took on his arch-rival Jon Jones.

Face to face with a man who seemingly just had his number, Cormier grew increasingly frustrated with Jones' behaviour. Between Jones threatening to murder him when he thought cameras were off (they weren't) to being the first man to take DC down in the cage, 'Bones' got under Cormier's skin.

Owing to a selection of legal and drug-related issues, Jones was suspended for some time, allowing Cormier to realise his potential as a champion. By the time Jones returned, Cormier's bitterness at fans still supporting his nemesis shone through. His rants about his moral superiority to Jones, while not completely unreasonable, rubbed many the wrong way and he was widely booed heading into their rematch.

As a pro wrestler, a heel Cormier could lean into this and be the kind of bad guy who still thinks he's the hero. Couple that with his skills and passion for the squared circle and you've got a legit shooter reminiscent of Kurt Angle and The Steiner Brothers.
