What a year City Kickboxing enjoyed in 2019, eh?
They saw not one, but two of their star pupils claim UFC gold, with Israel Adesanya and Alexander Volkanovski claiming the Middleweight and Featherweight titles, respectively.
However, one of their other outstanding talents has been slightly overshadowed by these championship winning exploits. But, it hopefully won't be too long before Dan Hooker finds himself with his own shiny title around his waist.
With only one loss in his last seven fights - and even that was against the legendary Edson Barboza - Hooker has been quietly establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the Lightweight division. On top of that, he's also showcased a mean submission game and has choked out both Mark Eddiva and Marc Diakiese via guillotine.
Be it by flash KO, brutal choke or going the distance, 'The Hangman' has all the tools necessary to climb to the very top of arguably the most competitive division in the UFC.
Whether he gets the chance and/or attention his remarkably well-rounded style and decent record deserve any time soon, is anyone's guess. But, if he continues to go about his work in a similar fashion and takes out a few more top 10 contenders along the way, it may become quite difficult to ignore yet another City Kickboxing superstar.
