10 UFC Stars Who Got Too Cocky

On the face of it, Alistair Overeem deserves all the acclaim that has been sent his way.

Being a former Strikeforce and DREAM Heavyweight Champion - not to mention a K-1 World Grand Prix Champion - Overeem has earned the right to be spoken about as one of the all-time great Heavyweight MMA stars.

But, my god does he know it.

Between winking mid-fight or simply smirking his way through a storm, Overeem is the kind of fighter that fans love to see put in their place and - on a few occasions - they've gotten their wish.

So, after decades of talking smack, you'd have thought that Overeem would have mellowed. Yet, as recent as UFC 225 in June 2018, the Dutch superstar was left chewing on his own words.

Treating his forthcoming opponent (Curtis Blaydes) as 'fresh meat', Overeem clearly showcased exactly how much belief he had in himself coming into the bout and that hubris led to a mauling from the up-and-comer.

He even hilariously commented - before his brutal third round KO defeat - that it was 'too soon' for the rising star to be mentioned as a potential Heavyweight title challenger.

Perhaps the seasoned veteran should start to think about winding down his arrogant verbiage.
