10 Unbelievable Omissions From The WWE Hall Of Fame
3. The British Bulldogs
With great matches and notable success in both the WWF and Japan, The British Bulldogs are widely considered to be one of the most exciting and influential tag teams of the 1980s.
Davey Boy Smith and Tom Billington were so popular during their heyday, that their Tag Team Title match at WrestleMania 2 was the main event of the Rosemont portion of the show. That night saw the northern grapplers win the gold from Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake, starting a run that would last 294 days.
Outside of doubles competition, the Brits were spectacular performers in their own right. Dynamite revolutionised wrestling with his intensity. His early '80s wars with Tiger Mask in New Japan are legendary. The hardened Billington was also WWF Junior Heavyweight Champion during this period, even prior to joining the WWF.
Meanwhile, Davey Boy went on to a prolific singles career in the 1990s, headlining ten WWE PPVs (including the legendary, genuine gate record smash that was SummerSlam 1992) and three WCW PPVs as a solo star. Davey also became an IC and Hardcore Champion along the way, and holds the distinction of being the very first and longest reigning European Champion.
Sadly, Dynamite's physical condition - a direct result of the wrestling business - is something WWE will likely want to distance themselves from. As such, an antemortem induction is unlikely, if not tragically harsh.
