Although he's highly regarded for his brief but distinct imprint on wrestling, Brian Pillman was criminally underrated and underutilized in WCW. The shame of the situation is that it was a total accident. Brian Pillman was way ahead of his time. His cutting edge "loose cannon" gimmick was going on a couple years before WWE's attitude era took the wrestling world by storm. In 1996 Pillman moved on to the WWF after a short stint in ECW, but the original plan was to have him return for a major WCW push. Eric Bischoff and Pillman had allegedly orchestrated a release in which would allow Pillman to work his character elsewhere. After it was established and fooled fans he'd be brought back to WCW and utilize the gimmick to its full potential. Instead Pillman swerved WCW and signed with WWF. WCW had Pillman in the palm of their hands and under contract. What could have been an envelope pushing, major contributor to their program was instead just an underrated memory.
