9. Batista Gets The Blues
Batista’s 2014 return to WWE didn’t go quite as planned. Booked as a face, the fans weren’t too happy to see The Animal slotted back into the main event, primarily because he was doing so at the expense of the people’s champ, Daniel Bryan. They saw sense quickly enough, and shifted big Dave to a heel, reuniting Evolution in the process.
This was a sound move, because the fans were having a whale of a time chanting “Bootista” at the Hollywood star. Ever the pro, he pushed on, and with Evolution put on two brilliant matches against The Shield.
At the second of these, Payback 2014, Batista decided to show off some natty new all-blue ring gear. This was a mistake. The quick thinking WWE universe began a “Bluetista” chant, which the commentary team, and Twitter, quickly latched onto.
The fans had a great time haranguing the big blue boy, but Dave wasn’t so keen. As late as 2019, he still reacts badly to mentions of this chant, taking it to heart that this is the fans’ main takeaway of a mostly successful comeback run with the company. He has a point, though it is funny to get rattled by something as silly as this.
