10 Ups & 0 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest (Jul 1)

9. Private Party Ascend

Marq Quen Santana
AEW

With last night's defeat, Santana and Ortiz need a new direction. They're one of the world's finest tag teams but have struggled for traction in AEW. Relegated to Inner Circle comedy bits far too often, defeat to Private Party provides the opportunity to refresh, revitalise, and get it together, hopefully following a more serious turn.

The floor to this match was likely a wild little spotfest with a few botches peppered here and while we didn't quite get that, the contest didn't hit its ceiling. Nonetheless, Private Party vs. Ortiz and Santana was solid enough. Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen came out to new music and started hot, with the announcers putting Matt Hardy's positive influence over. They worked a brisk pace early on before the former Proud and Powerful slowed things down leading into the commercial. Gears were changed as Kassidy, the match's MVP, hit a crazy Tornillo, and Private Party put the heels away shortly after Hardy had snatched the madball away from Ortiz.

It was an elevatory win for a promising young tag team who will now challenge Hangman Page and Kenny Omega next week. They'll lose that, though the defeat will give Kassidy, Quen, and Hardy plenty to mull over.
