10 Ups & 12 Downs For WWE In 2020 (So Far)

Ups...

10. Cinematic Wrestling

This goes down as a net positive overall despite recent misgivings.

One Last Beat was a low-point, presenting NXT's main-event melodrama in its absolute worst form, though Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream's Backlot Brawl and the Viking Raiders vs. Street Profits at Backlash were scarcely better. Unfortunately, it looks like WWE is getting worse at cinematic wrestling.

It's fortunate, then, that the highs were high as hell. The Boneyard Match was the best kind of B-movie, Bray Wyatt and John Cena's Firefly Fun House was a note-perfect deconstruction of everything fans hate about one of WWE's most derided characters, and Money In The Bank, while dumb, had that perverse, car crash appeal, crap Doink included.

"The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever" could be thrown into this entry as well, though we'll cover that later.

Here's hoping that WWE is able to recapture the Boneyard/Fun House magic over the coming months. This style of "wrestling" is a no-brainer in the Empty Arena Era, though the low comedy needs to go.
