10 Ups & 2 Downs From Impact Wrestling Rebellion 2020 (Part 1)
5. From Prodigy To Champion
With both of his opponents unable to make it to Rebellion, Michael Elgin was instead featured in an interview alongside new backstage reporter Gia Miller, where 'Big Mike' hit all the right notes for a tremendous interview. Every little thing he said made perfect sense.
Elgin talked about how he first stepped foot in a ring at the tender age of 14-years-old, and has since gone on to become one of the finest grapplers in the world today. However, nothing was ever enough for him, not even winning the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Kenny Omega - a man often touted as the best in the world - was enough to satisfy Michael. Instead, he arrived in Impact, with the same thing in mind from the first day he arrived - the Impact World Championship. He wants to join a list that also features AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, and Kurt Angle.
There wasn't anything in here that should've been taken out. It was pure perfection in terms of a promo/interview. Elgin is a gifted talker, which is helped by the fact he can back up everything he says with his in-ring performances. An announcement regarding the World Championship is scheduled for part two next week. If Impact decide to follow in the steps of crowning an interim World Champion until Tessa returns, like what NXT are doing with the Cruiserweight Championship, then there's really no other option than Michael Elgin for that role.
