7. Cruiserweights Lead It Off

At this stage, it’s not worth lamenting how the cruiserweights are perpetually relegated to the kickoff shows of various PPVs. We just have to accept it and hope for the best.

That said, Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese did a nice job kicking off the in-ring action Sunday night, delivering a brisk WWE Cruiserweight Championship match that featured some highspots, but a lot of strikes and trading of blows. Nese pulled out a Fosbury Flop to the floor and a 450 splash for a close 2 and escaped a Murphy’s Law to come back and end Murphy’s six-month reign.

Getting a good match that gets fans fired up is the best we can hope for these days, and that’s exactly what we got, as the still-filing-in crowd was cheering by the end of the bout. Good enough for an “up” here.
