10 Ways Money In The Bank 2019 Can Save WWE's Year
2. Two Stars Get Five Stars
Are "dream matches" even possible in WWE anymore? More often than not, the tagline is a curse. AJ Styles' 2018 series with Shinsuke Nakamura is the most compelling example of this. Each clash was fine, but fans had been conditioned to expect greatness from two wrestlers who blew the roof off the Tokyo Dome in 2016, and while the matches' inability to hit "Best Of The Year' status had much to do with Nakamura's fading abilities, WWE's restrictive in-ring framework and tiresome booking tropes were more culpable.
Styles' latest "dream match" sees him face Seth Rollins this Sunday. It's a clash that workrate-minded fans have been waiting years for, and there's every chance the writing could get in the way of the wrestling. Again.
Let's hope it doesn't, and that WWE give the duo the freedom they need to deliver their best work. "Let the wrestlers wrestle" is often a flawed point of view that neglects what Vince McMahon's product is really about. Here, it's entirely appropriate, and it'd be great to see them get to do their thing without endless restholds and a wonky finish.
